Possible sounds and music

Below are the links to the pieces of sound and music that we used in our film, as well as some others that we decided not to include in the final cut. They are all royalty-free.

Individual Poster Analysis:

In order to advertise our film I created a poster. Through research into film posters I noted iomportant aspects which posters needed to include in order to successfully advertise the film and link to it, these were:
  • The films title, I also used the same font featured in our title sequence as shown below, this created synergy across our media products.
  • The films age rating, we chose a 12a as although there are themes of violence it is never shown in the film.
  •  Film posters also feature credits so I added some also.
  •  I also added a quotation from the film to continue synergy across my media products but to also hint towards the context of the film.
 Theory:
In order to achieve a preferred reading of my poster I used paradigms and indexes.

The index of blood used in the image of the eye is in direct connection to death, a key theme in our psychological-thriller short film.

I also used anchorage to fix the meaning of the image of the eye, the dialogue "I know what I saw." demonstrates the importance of sight and visions within the film.

Paradigms are a set of signs that each relate to something in common. This is present in my poster design:
The image of a young girl and;

The image of an eye and;

The image of blood together as paradigms suggest that the film involves a young girl who may view death or violence.

Rough Idea for Film Poster

Above is a rough version of my idea for the film's poster. It is inspired by the poster of 'Orphan' (2009), which can be seen below. I adopted the effect used in the below poster by mirroring an image of Lily so that her face seems perfectly symmetrical down to the tiniest detail. This creates a rather unnatural and unnerving look, which in a way, emulates the desired effect of the film.

Poster Analysis

When choosing a film poster to analyse I decided to choose a poster not of a film similar to our own but one that's design I find interesting and I feel that I can create a poster for "Lily" similar to this one. Within this poster there are certain features that I think would look good in a poster for "Lily".

One of these features is the naming of the film itself. The films name is simply placed at the bottom of the poster alone. Within the naming is a direct link to the main storyline of the film. This link is the 2 different portal colours used in the film which have been used instead of the O.

I feel that we could use this in a poster for "Lily" by having either a lily replace the Y or even the knife from our film replace the I

A second feature of the poster is the colouring. the whole poster only uses 5 different colours. The main colour used is black. Black is usually linked with death or danger. A second colour used in the poster is white which is usually related to innocence.

A third feature of the poster is the main character presented in black and white. This allows the full effect of the black and white be shown as with the character in black and white a large range of colours are eliminated.

But these features that make the poster effective can also act against it. This can be seen as the poster only uses a small range of colours mainly consisting of black white and gray. This means that there are no bright colours to catch you eye and draw you in. With the posters limited colour range the audience is less likely to be interested in the poster when compared to another bright poster.
