Film poster analysis:

'The Blair Witch Project' (Directors Daniel Myrick & Eduardo Sanchez, 1999) is a horror genre found footage film featuring dark, psychological themes. Similarly to 'Lily' the film was very low budget of only $60,000 but had a great success receiving over $1.5 million at the box office. The design of film poster contributed to their success.

When choosing a film poster to analyse I decided to choose a low budget film with limited funds in regards to advertising to research how they gained interest in their film despite their low budget. 'The Blair Witch Project' poster iconizes the films themes and genre clearly through dark colours and low key lighting within the photograph of the woman.

Horror convention of iconographic woods are shown along the top of the poster symbolising the horror genre as well as the setting of the film.

White font contrasts the dark background allowing it to gain the audiences attention. Opposed to big budget film posters this one holds a lot of information to attract an audience.

Located in the center of the poster is a red 'witch' symbol, the colour red holds connotations of danger and its position within the poster foreshadows that the characters will experience danger in the woods.

Through researching film posters I have conducted that our film, being low budgeted, needs to invlolve information in regards to the plot as well as images and colours conveying connotations of the films theme to attract a wide audience and keep its genre clear.
